Summer Vacation Extension for Kashmir Schools, Latest Update by DSEK

This decision comes despite numerous appeals for an extended break due to the ongoing heatwave. Initially, a 10-day summer vacation was announced, extending until July 17,2024.

The authorities, however, have assured that appropriate measures are being implemented to provide a conducive learning environment for students.

Schools are advised to adhere to the guidelines to mitigate the effects of the heat.

The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association expressed deep concern today over the decision by the Director of School Education Kashmir to reopen schools on July 18th despite the ongoing heatwave in the region.

In a statement, Additional Spokesperson of the Association, Zubair Reshi, said that while colleges have rightly commenced their summer break, younger students are being asked to return to classrooms after a mere 10-day vacation

This decision disregards the serious health risks posed by the current intense heat, which can lead to dehydration, fatigue, and heat-related illnesses among children, he said
